Alexandra Parikova

Alexandra Parikova is a French-Czech visual artist known for her deconstructed geometric compositions and large portraits combining oil painting and recycled objects. Inspired by the Cubists – Kupka, Filla, Braque, Gris – as well as Picasso, Schnabel and Rodin, she boldly incorporates collage into her works, while cultivating a rigorous technique: a superimposition of countless thin layers of oil glaze, which gives her canvases a unique, almost vibrant depth.

How can we address the themes of recognition, the difficulty of being oneself, our place in the world, and our connection to others? How can we talk about the passing of time, the fragility of life, and our finitude? Alexandra Parikova explores these questions through the prism of her own experience, placing humanity and the self at the heart of her artistic research.

Her works immerse us in a colourful world made up of shapes that fit together like scattered puzzle pieces. Through subtle trompe-l’oeil effects, a face, a gesture, an emotion eventually emerge. This fragmentation becomes a metaphor: like her characters, we are all in a state of constant reconstruction, shaped by the setbacks and rebirths of existence. In an age saturated with images, where appearance often takes precedence over meaning, Alexandra Parikova seeks to deconstruct the gaze, to break down form in order to bring us back to the essential: our humanity, our vulnerability, our ability to recognise others – and to find ourselves in them.
